Carpentry

Is it time to dress up your home with new crown moulding or wainscoting? Do you want to makeover your fireplace with shiplap or a new mantle? Are you ready for the built-in shelves you've been dreaming of?

Most importantly, are you searching for a finish carpenter in your area that you can actually trust? Someone you feel comfortable having in your home? If so, I hope you'll give us a call. Castleguard Home Services has a reputation for being trustworthy and providing quality work in and around Charlotte, NC. Let me tell you a little bit about the finish carpentry service we provide.

Trim

There are few things that will add value and visual appeal to your home's interior quite like trim moulding. Every home has it in some fashion but quality moulding installed at a professional level will set your home apart. We provide trim installation of all kinds. Would you like to replace your builder-grade crown moulding with something a bit more elegant? We work with a local supplier with access to dozens of different profiles that you're not going to find at a big box store. We install our crown moulding with industry best practices to ensure a perfect finish. Moulding is always secured with 2-1/2" nails and all joints are glued. This minimizes cracking or separating as time passes and weather fluctuates.

Does the family dog enjoy nibbling on your baseboards or door trim? We can repair or replace your trim to be better than ever. As with other mouldings, we have access to a wide variety of baseboard and door trim profiles. We can match what you already have or install something new with a little more character. We install all trim with the same quality workmanship as our crown moulding.

Wainscoting

Do you want to make a statement with recessed paneling in your dining room or add a timeless look to the nursery with a board and batten style? Have you been bitten by the Fixer Upper bug and want to put shiplap on everything? Wainscoting comes in a wide variety of styles and truly provides a distinguished and unique look to your home. It can be as simple as beadboard and chair rail in a bathroom or a complete makeover of your stairwell.

Built-Ins

We specialize in clean, simple built-in shelving and cabinets that provide form and function to your space. So many people call me and say' "I just don't know what to do with the blank wall around the fireplace." Or they want to upgrade their entertainment center to something a little more stylish. No matter what you need, we'll walk through the whole process together. You'll work directly with us from conception to completion.

We can makeover your laundry room to find a balance of utility and visual appeal. Do you need more storage or a folding area? How about a drying rack for the delicates? Let's face it, not many people like doing laundry, so you might as well make it as enjoyable as possible.

If you have kids then I'm sure you can imagine the convenience of mudroom lockers or an entryway drop zone. Getting in and out of the house with coats, shoes, backpacks, etc is exhausting. A drop zone will change your world! Life is simpler when there is a place for everything and everything is in its place. We can custom build yours to suit your specific needs and to work best in your space.

A good finish carpenter can help you transform any space by walking through the entire process with you. We're not just going to slap something together based off a picture you found on Pinterest. We will help you decide what is going to work best for your space and your life. We want to leave you satisfied with your decisions, not wishing you would have done something different. This is what sets us apart. On top of that, when you hire Castleguard for your carpentry project you will receive great customer service and quality work from clean and friendly installers. Whether you need crown moulding, wainscoting, or built-in shelving, we're here to help.

Wood Rot Repair

Are you one of the many homeowners in Charlotte, NC who just discovered that the wood trim on their home is rotting? Well, Castleguard Home Services is here to help. Repairing rotting wood is the most common issue homeowners contact me for. The materials and methods I use to repair rotten wood ensure that it will never rot again.

When your friends and family stand on your front step rotting wood around your door and windows is one of the first things they’ll notice. Not only is it unsightly, but rotten wood trim can lead to some very serious problems for your home.

Here are some of the most common areas of wood rot that I encounter:

Rotten Window Trim

Windows are an especially vulnerable area of your home. Part of the job of the trim around your windows is to keep water from getting in and causing damage inside your home. Often the structural framing of your home can be damaged by moisture that has gotten inside your walls. This can lead to a host of other problems including structural compromise, mold, pets, and more. Not only can rotted window trim lead to further damage it is also unsightly and hurts the curb appeal of your home.

Rotten Door Frame

Like windows, doors are susceptible to rot as well. In addition to the trim around the door rotting, it is very common to see the door frame, jamb, and the door itself begin to rot. This, of course can lead to the very same problems mentioned above but can also make it difficult and extremely frustrating to open and close the door.

Rotten Window Sill

Rainwater will often collect on your window sill and eventually saturate the wood and cause it to rot. If the problem is not addressed the rot will spread into other components of the window, into your siding, and even into the framing of the home. Many of the problems homeowners encounter with windows originate from the damage around the window and not the window itself.

Rotten Soffit Eaves and Fascia

The soffit and fascia that make up the eaves of your roof are probably the most common areas of wood rot that I encounter. Areas of your roof that allow leaves to gather and hold moisture are especially susceptible, as well as any areas where the gutters are not adequate to handle the rainwater. Rotten wood in these areas is the most common point of access for pests to make their way into your home.

Why Choose Castleguard?

I specialize in exterior wood rot repair. When you choose Castleguard to repair your rotten wood I will not just make it as good as new, but better than new. The materials I use are impervious to water damage and will last a lifetime. I am confident that you will call me back to work on your home again but it will not be to repair the same rotting wood.

Handyman

Have you been searching all over Charlotte looking for a local handyman you can trust? Looking for a handyman who not only is skilled, but courteous, reliable, and professional?

When you set out to hire any service professional, be it a mechanic, electrician, plumber or hairdresser, you’re likely faced with a little uncertainty. How can I be sure they do good work? Will they be honest? Are they reliable? Is this someone I would want in my home?

Here are 3 things to look for when hiring a handyman service:

#1 Find a Handyman With Experience

Everytime I see an ad for a Handyman in Charlotte, it boasts of the “20 years experience” of the handyman. But that could mean anything. Does he just tinker with home projects? Did he do nothing but flooring his whole career? How can you be sure that the provider you hire has sufficient experience?

Online reviews have become a very reliable source of recommendations. Sites like Angie’s List and Google Business can help you remove some of the doubt. You can see reviews of the handyman’s work and often his character and professionalism. If the provider has a social media profile this is also a good place to look for reviews.

If a handyman is lacking in technical skills the reviews will reflect that. The internet makes it extremely difficult to hide shoddy work for very long.

#2 Find a Handyman Who is Professional

Your typical Weekend Warrior is easy to spot. He’s the guy wearing the Budweiser shirt and torn jeans driving an old truck with bondo patches all over it. He will show up (maybe) when he can and try to figure out a job that he watched his grandpa do when he was a kid.

This is not the guy you want in your house. A professional handyman will show up on time, dressed neatly and have the right tools for the job.

One good way to screen a handyman service for professionalism is to look at the company website. The website will reveal a lot about a provider. Is the site well-made with a professional appearance? What does the text reflect about him? Does he appear to be organized? How does he present himself in photos? How a person does one thing is how that person does everything. If he is unorganized and lazy, the website (or lack of one) will reveal that.

#3 Find a Handyman Who is Reliable

Reliability seems to be the hardest thing to find in a handyman service. Many of my customers express awestruck wonder when I simply show up on time.

For a homeowner, reliability might be the most important trait of a handyman. However, reliability goes way beyond just showing up on time. It also means answering emails, returning phone calls and giving updates throughout the project. It’s not just completing the work but completing the work as promised and cleaning up when the work is done. A reliable handyman will come back and and fix a problem he missed initially. He will give honest estimates and not cut corners. He will do whatever it takes to guarantee his customers’ satisfaction.

When you are looking for a handyman don’t settle for anything less. Any shortcomings of your handyman can almost be overlooked if he is extremely reliable. At the very least you can be assured that the job will be completed properly and on time.

Hiring a handyman can be stressful but it doesn’t have to be. I have seen the concerned looks on my clients’ faces disappear after our first meeting. They know that they are hiring a handyman who can tackle their home repairs with top quality craftsmanship while dealing with them professionally and courteously. They know I will arrive on time and complete the work as promised. They are immediately put at ease. And they continue to call me back time and time again when they need a home repair.

If you are ready to hire a clean, reliable local handyman who possesses the skill and professionalism to put your mind at ease, contact me today.
